Tachometer for M45 AFV

Unread post by SturmTyger380 » December 15th, 2022, 2:12 pm

I posted this on another site but many times you guys here know more 'stuff'!

Has anyone bought one of these Tachometers on e-pay that say they were used in the M45 tank?

I like the way it looks. It has 4 prongs for input but would kinda like to know how it was wired up before I spend any money.

Any idea how it was wired? "Added by Mr. Recovery" try this link. https://www.ebay.com/itm/200885144660?h ... R9qGrvuiYQ

Link is no good. There was never a provision for a tach in a M151 so anything like that you want to put in you would need to know the wiring for the vehicle it came out of. I have not looked for the M45 tank but was that gas or diesel?

Ok, Looked it up. That was a WWII Pershing tank. Used a 500 horse GAF Ford V8. would bet that engine had two magnetos for ignition and the tach for magnetos was usually mechanical cable drive. But as I don't know the first thing about tanks or that engine I can't help without a wiring diagram for the tank.

I added a good hot link to the post, looks like a total electronic tach to me, good luck.

I can remember a tach hook up to the spark plug wire.Inappropriate so it can be deleted, rather I want it deleted.

Tried to find a wiring diagram but not successful. For that price you can find one aftermarket in 12 volt and run it off of an inverter. But why do you need a tach? And where would you put it?

My other project than the M151 is a M37. So the tach was going in that.

Gotcha, You do know they are governed right? Same thing though, you can probably make that tach work but without the original wiring diagram to show the connections it would be guessing. I am thinking that the wires would be Ignition (coil neg.) light, ground, and positive. I can see some markings on the inside of the plug that Mr. R linked to but they probably do not match the connections. Those plugs and connectors were used on many things, mostly comm. stuff.
