7.50-16 tires will work?

Post by vinhvinny » March 24th, 2020, 9:53 pm

I've read many conflicting answers.

My M151A2 currently has 7.00-16 tires on it. But I now find 7.50-16 tires at significantly cheaper price. Will they fit my current rims and Jeep without rubbing.

Thank you for your answer.

Picture for attention. Not mine.

Well, you have read many conflicting answers so what you get here will probably conflict with what you have heard somewhere else and you will still not be sure. But from what I have seen and been told the 7.50's will rub at full lock on turns and also tend to hit the tops of the fenders. They are a taller and slightly wider tire.

Rick, which of the rear wheels drive on that rig, both axles or just one? Looking at how bald the rear tires are.

On most of those rigs both sets drive but one set is going to drag going around a turn. Whichever set has the least weight on it is the one that will drag and in this case it is the rear set. On any tandem axle vehicle one set of rear tire will drag as it turns since the turning radius will be different for each axle. Even with dual wheels one tire on the set of duals will wear faster than the other for the same reason.

And eventually that is going to wreak havoc with the driveline when in all wheel drive.

No more than a regular 4 wheel vehicle. The back rear runs off of the one in front of it so there is really no difference to the transfer case. If you are on a hard surface it will still be the same problem, front or back is going to have to have one tire that needs to break loose.

Well, in any case, it looks wonderful and horrible...all at the same time.

I have driven one and they are pretty fun, off road. I would not recommend it on road for obvious reasons. But keep in mind that Dodge did make on very similar to that in WWII based on the M37.
