Bosch cr spark plugs

Unread post by CaptB » June 14th, 2019, 10:12 am

Bought a set of spark plugs for my A2 from an online mutt specialist and opted for Bosch cr electrodes. On arrival I have found that they have two outer electrodes which are set at 0.5mm. I cannot find any info on these plugs, what should I set the gap at and do I just set the gap in the normal way on both sides. Wasn't expecting the plugs to be like this so a bit of a curve ball

Those are either platinum or iridium plugs. I have never seen them in a military version and I also don't think I have ever seen any with short threads. Are the ones you got military shielded plugs? And by the way, you do not set the gap on these types of plugs. What is the whole number for the plug?

Learn something new every day! They are used in the Unimog 404. The gap is fixed, you cannot set it and the big question is do you know if the heat range is right? Maybe George from Holland could shed some light on these?

Besides the heat range I am curious to see how they run. I know some engines simply do not like platinum plugs. The early 4.0 Jeep engines would not run for crap on them, all you had to do was change back to Autolites and they ran great. From what I can gather the higher compression engines seem to like these plugs better but I tend to doubt that a 50-60 year old Unimog has high compression so definitely let us know how they run.
