Transmission/Transfer Oil Change

Unread post by m75 » August 13th, 2019, 4:40 pm

Well, everything else is finally working. I have also changed the engine oil and both differentials fluids.

Now that I have laid in a supply of the copper crush washers for the drain plugs, it's time for the trans/transfer.

The LO shows a different "drain" plug location for each section, but only one add point? Will adding the lube into the one point distribute through the transfer and into the transfer?

And by the way, either of those bottom drains will drain 99% of the oil from the trans/transfer case. You really only need to pull one on them.

Thanks Rick. I was already very familiar regarding the pivot pin, based on previous posts. The LO has a nice graphic showing the right spot. I'm surprised the pivot pin wasn't specifically ID'd in the LO as a "no-touchy" item to the end-users.

That is why they changed the bolt type to one that you would not normally have a socket for in the standard tool kit. No tool means you can possibly remove it right? Yea, never dismiss the ingenuity of the American male when he wants to get something done. It WILL happen.
