Saw some recent posts either here or on the 503 about grinding into 3rd. A reverse detent spring repair was suggested as a possible fix. I found this by Buzz on the Wayback. Luckily I do not have this problem... yet. Maybe someone else will find this link useful.

I had that problem. The problem was me shifting too fast. I go old and slow.

I can concur with this situation. What I do when shifting from 2nd to 3rd is take it out of 2nd and let the gear handle find its happy spot and than push it into straight up into 3rd. I think the grinding is caused by inadvertently pushing it over to the right too far when going from 2nd to 3rd and your hitting the reverse gear.
