Connecting Rod Torque

Unread post by bazookajoe » November 13th, 2019, 4:56 pm

What is the correct ft. lbs torque on the connecting rods, i read in the manual 40-55 ft lbs. Does that mean start at 40 and end at 55??

That's the recommended torque range after you run the nuts down evenly. I've been taught to use the middle torque setting when given a range. So your torque would be 50 ft lbs. You can go up to 55 ft lbs if want.

I always go to the halfway point first of any recommended setting and then finish at the middle of the recommended range. You want to hit the final torque while the wrench is moving so give yourself enough room for a full swing if at all possible and then smoothly pull until it clicks. Some parts like heads will tell you to torque in three stages.
