George, the best way to do any kind of machine work is to get the pistons first and then give them and the block to the machinist and he will match the block to the pistons. To try to bore it out first based on a given size and hope the pistons are a perfect match to that size is wishful thinking and has led to a lot of engines that had to be bored again to the next size up.

Hi George and Rick......

here's the data for an .020 rebore. It's from Table 3-5 of the TM-34-1 final version (1988).

Remember that old advice..... measure twice and cut once :D

That is how it should be done, my guy would not do anything without the new parts in hand first.

I did my Motor back in 2010 I had a NOS head that just needed cleaning and light rust removal, I cleaned it in my Blasting Cabinet and hand lapped the valves. The Block was hot tanked and line Bored, Crankshaft was good so it was Polished and the oil channel's cleaned. The cylinder's were bored .020 over the Cam Bearings replaced and new freeze plugs installed "they were removed when hot tanked" so it was fitted with new .020 pistons and rings, standard main and rod bearings. I also had the Crankshaft Balanced.

Parts came to $303.85 in 2010
Machine Shop work was $365.00
My total came to $668.85 with me doing the disassemble and reassemble work. 8) :D
