Lifting Points

I am installing a two post lift/hoist and looking for advice on the lifting points for the A2.

Front to back rail where it meets the crossmember in the front and rear. The pads on the lift should be wide enough to spread the load across both side and cross a bit but if you think it is too small (the pad) just add piece of a 2x6 board between the pads and the frame.

I know the feeling very well! Last month I had to pull, repair and replace the transmission in my Dodge dually pickup. On the ground, outside since it will not fit in my garage. and no concrete or pavement, just dirt!! I forgot just how heavy that transmission is. It took a week and a half to do that job! Something that would have taken a couple days 15 years ago. I should not have done it at all but it is just something about being a mechanic, you do not trust anyone else to do the work. Every job I have farmed out has been screwed up. If you want it done right then do it yourself. That will be on my headstone no doubt.

Hate to point this out to ya, Rick....but you're going to have to trust someone else to bury you. Such is life (and death for that matter)!

What brand and capacity 2 post lift did you get?

I just turned 62 and like rickf, I do ALL my own wrench turning...

Creeper, floor jacks and safety stands are "getting old" - I need a lift...

I bought this one 273746759932 but it is in Australia. However, being Chinese, I am sure someone in the US is selling them.

My mate, who is much more knowledgeable than me about things mechanical, thinks the quality of manufacture, materials and welds is very good. I have yet to get it bolted to the shed floor and then fully installed. There is a fair bit of weight in it - 500Kg as it is delivered - and you will need lifting gear of some kind to get it in place and set it up. I had great fun getting it from the car trailer into the shed and unloading it

Also, as you will ned to buy one in the end (I am now 77) you might as well buy one as soon as you can and get the benefit of it for all those extra years. Wish I had done that...

This is my brother's lift made by Mohawk. He's had it about 10 years. We also do all of our own work and it's made life much easier when it comes to working on cars. Also, made in USA!
