so time to work on the jeep
IMG_9752.JPG
finished greasing everything

but I seem to have a water leak somewhere in the front, the front differential guard is always wet. Could not find the reason yet, but not allowed to take it for a test run, I decided to wipe down the sheet metal to make it a little prettier.

The most likely place for the leek would be the water pump weep hole. :o :(

You don't have a cat, or a dog or something like that wandering around do you?

Horst! I'm sorry for your quarantine and I hope you don't get sick ... something similar happened to me and it's a real disgusting, although having a job at the mutt is not so bad: D: D: D

On the other hand ... my front differential protector was also always a little wet, in my case, the drain valve that has the radiator in the lower part in the middle dropped a small drop of water every time, this valve is hollow and the drop is not seen until it falls ... maybe the same thing happens to you.

Well that sucks! I am guessing you have not gotten your shots yet? Kind of hard to social distance in a small helicopter!

With anti - freeze :)?

On the COVID side, first tests have been negative. And I have received both shots. So I am thinking I should be not too much in trouble

Hello George,

The leak was the whole last year and I was driving it not much but regularly. So I am afraid the pump is shot and I need to change sometime soon.

The link to the boots is excellent!

Those pumps and the repair kits for them are getting hard to find over here in the states.

That trip you took to Austria, It was a bit confusing the way you explained it since it seemed like you went to Austria to pick him up and took him to Italy? But in any case, how many times do you have to refuel on a trip like that?

The other way round. Flew to Milano, Italy to pick up the passenger and took him to Austria. First leg was 2 hours, same with the second leg but then another 30 min home. So only had to refuel in Italy once. Machine takes 540l (about 142 gallons) Jet-A, that gives me an endurance without reserve of 3 hours. I want at least 20 minutes in the tank at touchdown, low fuel light comes on at 15min left.

As you can see, no straight line because there is some unforgiving terrain, as such with a single engine, I pick routes along main valleys if available. So if I get some red light, I can put it down close to civilization. I had my share of this already, no need to repeat and we are talking about minutes of diversion, not hours.

Water pumps are available in Germany but they are expensive (around 180 USD) and still only repro parts. I have never seen any repair kits for them over here.

Well, today I was not in the mood to work on the 151, so I put my attention to the Vespa. Changing the V-belt and the variomatic pulleys is on the list. Always something...
