screws for brake line straps

Unread post by Jerome » March 1st, 2021, 11:43 am

Hi,

I am struggling with the replacement of brake lines, as most screws are totally stuck. Would anyone know the dimensions of these screws
attaching the brake line straps and connectors to the body:

PAOZZ 21450-424635
PAOZZ 21450 -424633

Thanks,

Jerome

Yes, I will try to heat them up without putting the Mutt on fire, (alternatively, I will try 'freeze and release' lubricant) but I will still need a few spare screws for replacement. So, I want to make sure I have the right sizes in my toolbox.

I used a heat gun, though a small torch would work too, then spray on some PB blaster/Aerokroil on it while still hot/or cold, you heat the area that the screw is screwed into. But heating it up has always worked for me

Use great care if you are heating with flame or you're going to have more troubles than you bargained for.

This is about patience, not brute force (which, we all know, is what these battles sometimes come down to).

Use Kroil, PB Blaster; whatever flavor you favor. Squirt 'em and let it sit. Squirt 'em again as necessary.

Heat really is on the far end of the use-of-force scale...particularly on or around sheet metal.

If you don't have a heat gun (and everyone should) you can pick one up on the cheap at Harbor Freight.

Even nice ones aren't all that expensive.

Once you get the sheet metal hot enough to burn the paint you will have rust issues. Also if this is where the wiring runs inside the rail you need to stay away from heat.

THanks guys, but no one has answered to my question regarding the sizes of these bloody screws... It is not specified on the parts list.

1/4-28 fine thread by 1/2" long according to those specs. Mark, he is looking for the screws that hold the line to the body.
