WANTED - fixed top radiator mount

Unread post by Rossco » May 23rd, 2021, 4:48 am

Hi all,

I wanted to know if any one had available the top radiator mount - its that piece which is soldered to the radiator top tank under the radiator cap
Mine is in a very poor state and has been modified at some time so it does not line up with the corresponding top mount on the engine. This results in a stressed rubber mount which has failed a couple of times now!
I could make one but it looks like quite a reasonably complex pressing so hence the question if someone has an old M151 radiator they are prepared to sacrifice the top mount from?
Happy to pay reasonable cost of same plus postage to New Zealand

Regards

Are you sure the bottom mounts are in good shape? If one is bad it will cause the radiator to sit on an angle and give you that offset on the top mount. I see that a lot on these at shows and in pictures. Same with the arms coming out from the engine holding the radiator, if one is bent it can cause that issue.

Hi Rick

Thanks for responding, When the top rubber mount failed for the second time! I took the whole radiator, including the engine mounts, off the truck and checked them out for alignment etc. So I know these are good and refited with new lower rubber mounts and bolts. On close inspection its apparent the top mount has been home made at some stage in a lighter gauge metal and not soldered to the radiator in the correct alignment.
I am sure I can make one up but thought as its on show when the hood is open the genuine article would be a better option.
Unfortunately there are no redundant MUTT radiators in this part of the world I can cannibalize so would appreciate if someone in the US has one they can part with that would be fantastic.
