piston rings?

I need to get my cylinders bored. would like to know if the oem rings are cast , moley , or other so the machinist can do the correct final hone. thanks

The safest thing to do is to get the rings and give them to the machinist. Most low performance rings are going to be cast but no telling what will come from contract to contract. Or talk to the supplier. I would still get them first and go from there. Better safe than sorry.

I've had two motors bored. In both cases, I supplied the pistons and the rings to the machine shop.

The proper way to get a motor bored is to supply the machinist with the pistons and rings before the job is started. That way he has all the exact dimensions to work with.

I checked the TM-2320-218-34 manual on page 155. The top ring is chrome and second ring is phosphate. which is usually iron coated with phosphate.

That is in the manual, that does not necessarily mean that is what you will get in a replacement 40 some years later. Better to have them first. Your engine, your decision.
