Hello to all colleagues! I see that there is little movement around here, I'm going to ask a question !!
I have a box with several spare parts for the mutt, among these spare parts, there are several cylinder head gaskets but they are different, one darker and thicker and another thinner metal gasket
It's these two ...

The question is ... what's the difference? is one better than the other? or do they have something that is preferable to know?
Greetings friends

Re: Different head gaskets
Be very careful about which gasket you use. I bought a new one for my MUTT and after assembling the engine it leaked like a sieve! The gasket was new and had all the correct cut-outs but it was flat whereas the correct on has raised sections surrounding all the areas where water flows. These raised areas seal when the head is tightened.
When I used the correct one, the leaking problem went away.

Re: Different head gaskets
Just as a guess I would say the more modern head gasket is for a G1600 engine used in the Cat 1404 line for forklifts and such. The G1600 is also used in it's own form for a lot of industrial uses. It is the same basic engine as the 151 but I am sure there have been some upgrades. You might find this interesting. Look at things like the head where the intake and exhaust are, the intake and exhaust manifolds. There are a ton of different configurations on this engine. I would like to get my hands on a CAT forklift engine just to see if it would work in a mutt.

Do a Google search for G1600 engine and you will find all kinds if stuff. Keep in mind that none of these are the exact same engine from the mutt. A lot of external changes but internally I think they are mostly the same.

Re: Different head gaskets
I haven't used any gaskets yet, and I hope I don't have to. I was just curious if there was a difference between these two.kmam wrote: ↑September 28th, 2021, 5:17 pmBe very careful about which gasket you use. The one I have I think has raised edges, this weekend I upload an image.
All the best

Interesting! I have done some searches to find parts, but what I have seen is in the United States, it seems that this engine was used there and in Europe maybe not. However, it's good to know ...rickf wrote: ↑September 28th, 2021, 6:29 pmJust as a guess I would say the more modern head gasket is for a G1600 engine used in the Cat 1404 line for forklifts and such. To attach one of these to an M151 you have to fix some things like the manifolds and see if the engine mounts are in the same place, I see that it has another gasoline pump, maybe it can be used for ours ...
