AMA-5108UT Alternator

Unread post by Lou » August 7th, 2022, 3:42 pm

Can anyone please tell me what the difference is between an AMA-5104UT and an AMA-5108UT Alternator, please? They both look the same outside and cannot find a TM for the 5108UT or the 5104UT.

Thanks in advance, Louie

Louie, Give these people a call, they are the ones that build them so they can tell you all you need to know about them.

Here was a thread I had going on Steel soldiers about a couple I have. I am trying to get rid of the Leece Neville if you are interested.

Rick,
Thanks for the information. Purchased parts for the Leece-Neville from them last year and parts for the Prestolite this month, so now have a spare alternator. Man, these things got expensive! Still have not located any TM's or service manuals for the Prestolite, even asked Southern automotive, but received no reply.

Thanks for the offer on the Leese-Neville. Almost took you up on it as the threads for the rotor stripped out in the woods, luckily made it back home without loosing the pulley. The pulley and fan were destroyed. Took the rotor to a machine shop and had them retap new threads on it. Just so you are aware, parts for the Leese-Neville are getting hard to find as it is out of production. The Prestolite, is still manufactured and is what modern vehicles like the Humvee's use. Time will tell which one holds up better off road.

Picked up the Prestolite from an eBay auction with a broken front frame. Purchased a new front frame and took it all the way to Manasquan Alternator for a test run. Our local Alternator shop (Ampco) went out of business after the owner died. Worked for them in 1979 and knew the owner well.

Louie
