possible substitute air cleaner to carb hose

I came across a possible substitute rubber hose for the air cleaner to carb.
I have not seen this listed anywhere before, so forgive me if this old news.
It is a Gates #24718. It is a 90deg, 2 1/4" & is meant to be used as a fuel filler neck hose.
My old hose split last year when I was winterizing the engine.
I've read that the alcohol in the fuel may damage the rubber on the original hoses, so I thought I would look for a substitute one.
Since this one was meant to come into contact with gasoline I thought it may work.
I bought one from Oreilly Auto parts the other day.Lists for $34.99 so with tax it cost me $37.09.
It was too long in both directions, but trimmed it to length using the old one as a guide.
It slid on both carb & cleaner without a problem & appears to work just fine.

Probably fits better that the original also. I know mine is NOS, with the lettering, and it never really fit right. If you hit it wrong it will pop off of the carb.
