Rear differential

Unread post by toadette » April 21st, 2013, 10:40 pm

I have just taken delivery of a new rear diff which I see has Korea stamped on the housing. Were these supplied to the US military with military spec or are they just knock offs. Has anyone had experience with them or know how good they are?

there were Korean manufactured 1100 series diffs . They are not knock offs.
All 151 diffs are noisy to some extent so just don't expect miracles.

Hope that this info helps.

Thanks Fil that's what I wanted to know. It can't be worse than the one I've got.

Speaking of noisy read diffs, would a rubber gasket - made from an old inner tube or something similar - help reduce the noise?

I've cut the tread off an old tire and used it as a spacer before and that helped a bit. I've also used spray on bed liner before which helps too.

But nothing is going to eliminate the noise all together, it's just an old noisy jeep.

The only thing that made a big difference is when i swapped out the stock diff with the fully locking diff i bought from Vitorrio in italy.

A piece of heavy rubber matting laid in the back helps quiet things down.
