VIC1 question

Unread post by Cav Trooper » July 31st, 2019, 11:08 pm

I have a VIC1 setup that I am installing on my MUTT.(for fun with the Grandkids) I have read the forum threads I could find on the VIC1 but I have not found a definitive answer as to whether the system has to be connected to the radios. I have a RT246 mounted and I have a power cable and 3 CX4723 cables which aren't enough to set up a 4 station system. I need to pick up another C2298 and if I need to connect to the radio, then another couple of cables.
Thanks,
CT

i installed a VIC1 system in my M151, with 3 stations, through the RT524. if kurt lesser is around, he would have the definitive answer, but i believe the VIC1 draws power through the radio mount, 1029, and therefore must go through the radio itself. it worked rather well, by the way. i used the head set type that has the intercom/transmit switch on a cord that hangs in front of you. driver, passenger and rear seat. i have 2 or 3 pics i could send you by regular email, but i can't figure out the new system. if you want them, PM your regular email address to me.

Thanks, I just got back to this site and found out in the mean time that I could use a CX-4720 power cable right off the batteries and no need to tie in the radio. I found short CX-4723 interconnecting cables at MVPA along with a couple of extra C-2298 control boxes and 3 extra NOS headsets. I have the AM1780 and 2 C2298 controls mounted and have tested headsets and have sorted out 4 that work so far. I need to make brackets and mount the other 2 C-2298 controls on the right rear fender next to the radios. I mounted the AM1780 on a bracket on the left rear fender with a control box on each side. I'm going to make hooks to hang over the bows at the corners to hang the headset on and keep them out of the way when not using. The grandkids are excited to try them.

Is there an adapter cable from the c-2298 to a Huey pilot helmet with the jacket plug? My grandkids love the VIC1 intercom and I would like to hook up the flight helmet instead of the open headsets with the break away connectors.
Thanks,

Just and FYI - Fair Radio in Lima Ohio has quite a bit of stuff for the VIC-1, many different length power cables control cables etc.. I noticed their prices are better than from Ebay sellers. If you haven't checked them out, give their sight a look see.

Have a nice day!

we had combat vehicle crewman helmets in our V100's, connected through the VIC1. they didn't look much different than huey helmets. get the grand kids one of those.

Finally got the CVC helmet and SPH4 helmet connected and working. Grandkids are estatic over being able to use them while I drive. I removed one earphone on a 161 and cut out the back to open up for hearing surrounding sounds. I used some thin black cloth to cover the ear piece and it works and looks pretty good. The outside sounds do drown out the intercom chatter though. All 4 stations are working now.
