M151 Government Archive Photos

Unread post by FoxMike » March 20th, 2023, 1:04 pm

I stumbled upon a batch of government archive photos and thought I'd post some in case others haven't seen them before.

First photo is tagged as from NAS Jacksonville, FL 1987, awaiting disposal

Second one is from Exercise 'Brim Frost' 1985

Neat pics but not so sure about the authenticity of the descriptions. Brim Frost was an exercise in Alaska in the middle of the winter in 1985. They would have used A2's with full enclosures and arctic kits on them. The fact that these are A1's tagged and marked, no hard tops and some are cannibalized makes me think this is a deadline headed for the demill area.

Now the one with the A2's on the truck in the mud with the full enclosures and the snow capped mountains in the background........... Yea, I think that may be the Brim Frost group.

I think that when the photos were uploaded, the order is reversed from what I tried to do. I can’t see any images on the site due to restrictions so I can’t fix it.

Perhaps I will make single posts of every picture in the future. So there is no confusion.

The ANG on the bumper stands for Air National Guard, that would make the antenna a VHF Aircraft setup. 8)

Here is a link to that particular picture.
https://nara.getarchive.net/media/membe ... ght-b997fe

The caption is:
Members of the 162nd Combat Information Systems Group maneuver an M151 light vehicle into position for unloading from a Civil Reserve Air Fleet aircraft during Exercise TEAM SPIRIT'86

As long as it's OK, I'll occasionally post some pictures from there, sized down. There are a lot of interesting photos on there; you just have to get creative with the search terms to get what you are looking for.

I have no problem with it. The reference to Air America was mainly for the guys that were there, Most younger people would only think of that as a movie. It was a real outfit doing basically what the movie depicted, minus of coarse the movie embellishments. I am not sure how many OLD guys that were in country we still have on this forum. I do know that Mr. Recovery, mp199th and I are the only originals left.

I flew on the C-47's that were "sold" to Air America during my tour.

I did not know that A2 also had the side and rear reflectors in the A1 style, not the reflective tape versions...
