M416 Floor replacement

Unread post by Mike Rogers » May 24th, 2019, 9:32 am

Has anybody replaced their floor in an M416? Mine is heavily bashed, has waves in it, and has some rust damage around the drains and corners so I am replacing it.

I cut out the floor already by cutting as close to the perimeter edge as I could get on the underside of the tub. I then started on removing the lip on the insides of the tub that run the length of both sides of the tub body.

The lip seam is very clean and did not appear to be welded in place when looking at it from inside the tub. It appeared that possibly a seam sealer was used. However, when I started removing it with a cut-off wheel it appears it was welded in place. However, there no spot welds and there is not a welding seam that is visible on top of the lip where it joins to the side of the tub. Is it possible the seam was soldered?

It is entirely possible it was seam soldered since they were designed to float. Have you checked with Guy at CMD about the floors? I think he may have done one for someone else at one time.

That's as much as I paid for my trailer.

I purchased the floor. It should arrive this week. I should have taken some before and after pics. My trailer was pretty beat up when I got it. Hours and hours into it already. Once I have the floor in it is time to paint the tub and assemble. I have everything else blasted, painted and ready to go.

The prices on M416 trailers have sky rocketed lately. People are buying them up, flipping springs over the axles, putting huge wheels and roof top tents on them, and pulling them behind their 4 door jeeps. They look cool, but I hate to see these trailers essentially destroyed.
