Unread post by Pat Gray » January 3rd, 2021, 5:55 pm

Hello, I am new to the G838 and wanted to share some pictures of my M416A1 Trailer. I found this last summer and wanted to restore it to MERDC camo pattern.

Greetings and a Happy New Year Pat. I've also got a Parkhurst M416A1, it's number 55. They are excellent trailers.... just a little bit heavy at the front end !

Welcome, Pat. Great looking trailer. I, too, am going to paint my M151A1, my M416 and my M762 the summer camo MERDC four color pattern.
Did you use any sort of timplete for the trailer? Or, just free hand it? I have seen patterns and templates for the jeep, but not the trailers. Also, did you camo the inside of the tub, or just leave it dark forest green?

Hi, if you go to our Manuals section and go to Vehicle Paint & Markings then click on Army TB 43-0209 then go to Fig 129 &130 on pages 271/272 you will find the pattern for 1/4 ton Trl. M16?? I think that is a miss print and should be M416. :)

I did a quick search on the net and found a M416 paint pattern. If I can find it I will send it to you. I didn't paint the inside yet, I ran out of good weather last summer and didn't get it done. I ordered paint from dealers on the internet and found that the colors seem to fade rather quickly in my area. (lot of rain and temp change) so I used samples off of model paint colors and bought Sherman Williams paint at the hardware store and giving it a try. I found it was really easy to get and apply. I was able to thin the paint with a little bit of water and it worked really great! I used my automotive paint sprayer to get the green base color and used a small touch-up sprayer from harbor freight to do the black, tan and lighter green. I will keep you all posted on the durability of it. I know of one other person that painted his M35A2 with house paint and said it works really well, keeps the bright colors and cleans up great with a pressure washer.

Nice looking trailer, a tarp would really set it off.

When a MVPA local club lurker mentioned that he used Home Depot house paint to paint all his military vehicles using a Harbor Freight slectric sprayer, I looked at him like he was crazy. But I am hering more and more from vehicle owners who use latex paint for their projects. I even heard about a national guard member who needed to paint their vehicles from OD green to esert tan prior to deployment and could not get the military spec paint in time to do so. Went to the local Home Depot with color swatches, got 5 gal buckeks of Behr house paint and painted away. After deployment, when the vehicles were returned, they were surprised how well the paint held up.

I'll stick with the Gillespie paints for now, but have a vehicles or two for a movie project that I might offer to paint to match their US Marine Korea era theme and use some house paint to do so.

I have a MUTT, a M416 and a M762 that I would like to do in MERCD summer pattern as a late '70s national guard unit so would be interested in trailer patterns. I have the one for the MUTT and was going to try to duplicate that pattern on the trailers if no other source became available.

One thing I did notice was the cure time was a longer. I have a MKT90 Kitchen Trailer and painted it in "383 green" house paint also.
