M416 manufactures

Unread post by Redlight » February 1st, 2021, 10:24 pm

I recently bought a M416 from GSA and was issued a form 97. However date of the manufacture was 9999 and the make was "Anthony". Is there a list of manufactures that I could use to have the form 97 reissued with a proper firm? IE Stevens, Johnson, Cemsco, ???
I have a blank data plate that I need to mount on the trailer as it had a tailgate cut into the trailer and the original was discarded. I will use 1966 as the date of delivery as this is the most common date on the previous 25 trailers I have purchased and sold.
Thanks

The Anthony Company made bomb trailers and cranes as far back as WWII. The company had a contract for building M416 trailers too.
Either the contract was a small, one-off batch...or they were used and abused because I only have one record of their M416 trailers.

The outfit was based in Streator, Illinois and the trailer record I have is trailer number 1705 delivered in June-1964.
I don't know what happened to the company but there's nothing listed. Maybe it was taken over or merged. Anyone live in Ill ?

Great stuff Surveyor. Thanks for that. I've now got two Anthonys listed in my trailer files. Your search engine works better than mine :D

Wow I learn something new every day. I guess the GSA was not wrong and the paperwork is correct. Now to narrow down the date from 9999 to 196?
