Re: Another new toy!
Nice catch. I built this one around 2009 off a nodak spud receiver when romy g part's kits were $99. Pretty straight forward. I loved the way my stain came out. Biggest thing with home builts is making sure you have enough US made parts on it to make it legal. Eventually sold it for another toy.

At the moment it is. They did just finalize the 10 round magazine that the NRA SWORE they could never do. The only reason I still belong to the NRA is because I have to be a member to belong to the range. They have gone in a direction all their own and it is not a good one in my opinion.raymond wrote:Is that thing legal in NJ

I am not real crazy about the Magpul hardware but I am going to the range tomorrow to sight it in and I will see if it grows on me. I am more of an old school wood stock guy.

Very pretty. I prefer under-folding stocks but unfortunately, they do interfere with the grenade launcher.
Re: Another new toy!
Took it out today and I do NOT like the Magpul stock! The only way to get a sight picture using the iron sights is to get your cheekbone tight against the top of that hard plastic stock. I look like I was on the wrong end of a roundhouse punch! I am going to look into the wood hardware for it, and an optic sight which raises the sight picture. I just like shooting iron sights, anybody can hit dead center with a scope! There is no challenge with a scope.
On another note, I took my grandson to the range with me and at 11 years old and this being only the second time he has ever shot he hit center of mass on a profile target at 100 yards with a .22 bolt action, an AR-15 and the AK 47. I am IMPRESSED!!

I've become a bit fan of red dot sights. For a low budget, the Bushnell TRS 25 is hard to beat.

I will have to look into that, fifty bucks on Amazon. I have to get the side mount for the optics for the AK. I have a red/green dot on my AR and I like it but it is a cheapie and although it was dead on last range session this one it was off.

Re: Another new toy!
Read some online reviews of the TRS 25. It is about the only low budget, brand name, widely available one that has a good reputation for longevity, battery life, zero retention, and that the elevation and windage clicks are accurate and repeatable. Pretty sure you can find a deal on one that includes a mount for the AK. I know good deals come up on them for the AR a lot that includes the proper mount for co witness with iron sights. I have 2. Wouldn't go to war with them, but am pretty confident in their use for my purposes.

My home defense....Saiga .410 w/30 round drum magazine and Hornady Critical Defense .410 ammo. Complete tactical kit: Light, laser, red dot, and more. Awesome.

Rick
A federal judge in California just vacated California's 10 round magazine limit yesterday. May be some hope for the rest of the areas of the country with similar laws.

Re: Another new toy!
It has been shot down four times so far in NJ court and apparently it cannot go to federal court until all avenues of state court are used up. I am guessing that will take many, many years.
