Re: Shovel
Thanks Dan, I saw that one, it would be over $100 shipped, there are some on Epay for $65 shipped, thought I would try here before I spend that kind of money.
Re: Shovel
I was told the M-151 used a shovel, and axe for that matter, that are same ones you buy from the local store. At least the ones you bought from the store in the late 60's. They were not a special contract item specific to that vehicle or to the military.

Re: Shovel
I have one but it has a plastic handle, plus the head angle must be different because it won't fit close enough at the forward strap point.
Re: Shovel
I had one from Ace Hardware that required the shovel head be trimmed back a bit in order to fit. Ace had a shovel with the correct curve in the neck....it had a lot more swoop to it which is what is needed to bring it close to the body. Very inexpensive.
But the Ace also had a head that was too long. If I recall correctly, I trimmed off about an inch...maybe a bit more. But, if you find the almost-correct Ace Hardware style it you will be able to tell exactly how much to remove just by laying it alongside your truck.
I will assure you of one thing....they are NOT the large shovels such as were supplied in WWII.

Thanks TJ and Dan, If one doesn't show up soon, I will buy one on Epay, never thought I would spend $60 on a shovel.

Re: Shovel
I have two originals out in the garage, It is a blazing 16 degrees but I will go out just for you and see if there are any markings on them. Oh, and the wind is blowing about 25 MPH.

Re: Shovel
Oh you OWE me for this one!!!! It is freakin' COLD out there!!!!
I did not notice until I came in and looked at the pics that it looks like the numbers on the handles may be dates. The one is definitely 54 and the other looks like 64 but I will have to verify that at another time when I am out there again. I will text you the pics for now since the server host is running an evaluation on the excess usages and I don't want to be posting any more pics than I have to. I will add the pics later so they can be referenced by others at a later date.
