Beam of light
Hello friends! My mutt doesn't illuminate correctly, I can't get the light beam to be correct and when I drive at night the cars give me long and short bursts because I am dazzling them with my headlights.
my spotlight is like this: https://kemper-parts.com/en/ford-mutt-m ... eam?c=1293
Have I bought the wrong bulb? Is there a bulb that does not dazzle other drivers?
In this image you can see how the beam of light does:

Re: Beam of light
Looking at that picture it appears to me that the light is focused to the right and a bit low. this would be normal for a vehicle driven on the right side of the road and possibly even a little low according to the chart in the pic. compared to most headlights today the originals are flat out dim so I can't see why anybody would be blinded by them.
I suggest you have a friend go down the road and turn around and come back towards you while you are driving the other way and see what they tell you. If it is high and left just readjust the screws on the light adjustment until it looks good to oncoming drivers. I can drive with my older cars with the high beams on and nobody even notices!!!
Lights made for English cars that are driven on the left side of the road have different lights that are designed to shine left and up on the side of the road. I do not recognize the brand name of those lights so I don't know if maybe they are those? Ken should be able to tell you.

Re: Beam of light
I believe the sealed beam lights are symmetrical. If you have installed and adjusted them correctly there should be no reason why there is a problem with other traffic.
I have decided to use more modern H4 unsymmetrical lights, they have a better light output and the original sealed beams are illegal in Germany anyways. Only drawback is the the glass is almost flat, not as curved as the original sealed beams. Look for 7" Hella H4 lights if you are interested in a conversion

Re: Beam of light
Hi Horst, I'm interested in making the switch because I don't like to bother others, I didn't know there were compatible looks! Thank you very much for the information! Can you confirm that this is the lighthouse? I would only have to put a 24V H7 on it, right?

To put this light I just have to remove the original one and put this one? without making any changes? won't it be "loose"?
Thank you very much for your help and quick responses!

Re: Beam of light
hi
you must have H4 24 volt NOT the H 7 the diam headlights is 7 inch
the hella is A symetric it has a 15 degree window to get a higher beam at the right side off the road
H7 is not the duplo H4 are 24V 75/70 W

Re: Beam of light
As George is saying, what you need is a 24V H4 bulb and a 7" light. The one in your Amazon link is basically correct. However what seems to be available are specific 7 inch lights for classic cars, they are more concave than the more modern Hella lights and look a little bit more stock. Many suppliers for classical cars have them for sale.
When I installed mine, only the Hella (or Bosch) lights were available. Some very minor tweaking to the housing is required, a few very small cutouts to position the light, done in a few minutes. When you look at the light provided in the Amazon link, you can see on the rear some metal tabs to position the light, you will need to take care of them.

Re: Beam of light
I like that photo, they are very well adapted. It is true that they are flatter, but nothing happens, the difference is only appreciable by a very expert eye, it does not break the aesthetics of the car, so when I have a little time I am going to buy them and put them on.
Thank you very much for your advice, I think I will put the result here
Re: Beam of light
I had mentioned to Horst that they look exactly like the Hummvee LED lights I have in my mutt. Fit right in with no modification and man, are they bright!!! But I would guess they would not be legal for you.

Re: Beam of light
Hello Rickf, here you cannot put anything on the car that is not approved, and written in the technical sheet, if it is a modification you have to do a project by an industrial engineer, present an approval from the manufacturer of the part and pass an inspection . It is a long and expensive difficult process.
In the end I took the same path that Horst took, new and approved headlights, with a 24v H4 bulb. They look almost the same as the originals, now I no longer bother cars that come in front of me at night.
This is the result: Greetings to all and thanks for your help.
