AN/GSS-14 Searchlight in Operation

Spent the weekend at the Arkansas Travellers Rally at Petit Jean State Park. Fired up the searchlight Friday night. Worked like a champ.

You have to be real careful with those lights in operation. If it goes up in the sky as designed you will most likely get a visit from the FAA with a cease and desist order, and that is if you re lucky. They lock people up for using lasers on aircraft so they will take a dim view (Note how I put that?) on a million plus candlepower searchlight blinding the pilots. Same with land use and the bright light, it is a carbon arc if I remember correctly so same as a welding flash, it will blind people and pets. Yea, I know, I am a wet blanket. But this wet blanket does not want to see members in jail.

I was just joking, but not only is this a military show, it's also a big auto show and swap meet, a lot of people camp out, I bet most people haven't seen a light that bright. Petit Jean sits on a mountain top, I bet it was seen by the surrounding towns. Talk about seeing spots, my cheap sunglasses wouldn't hold up.
