interesting first picture. The A2s are fresh out of storage according to the tags on the grille and the numbers on the bumper.

I was at Ft Irwin for the Gallant Eagle exercise in early 1982. The California National Guard was acting as Red force, and I was with the 40th MP Company then. We deployed to Ft Irwin (pre-NTC name) mid-March to prepare for the 82nd AB who represented the Rapid Deployment Force (RDF). Spent my birthday in snow in the desert that year. Airborne troops did not come supplied for high desert weather, expecting HOT HOT HOT, but finding snow, COLD COLD COLD. Troops were standing by the MSRs after Day Two of the exercise, waiting to turn themselves in as they had no food, cold weather gear, sleeping bags, etc. That was on top of the botched parachute drop where several troops died due to excessive wind speed on the DZ. Field hospital was chock-full those days. Us? We laughed, fired up the GP Medium space heaters, pulled the parkas tighter and went on MSR prisoner collection runs.

The image shows a gun jeep from 82nd MP Company.

I wish this train would show up by me! The image has been cropped a little bit to focus on the jeeps.

It was 12 degrees this morning. This seems like an appropriate photo.

While not from the government archive, these are from another site I'm on. Though the placement of the orange beacon is interesting.
