M274A5 At Thanksgiving

Unread post by glcaines » December 5th, 2024, 2:24 pm

Thanksgivinh 2024 1.jpg
Moving the Grandkids around on Thanksgiving on my newly acquired M274A5 Mechanical Mule. It was freezing cold, but they kept wanting to ride faster and faster. I finally gave up. I purchased the 1968 Mule at the same museum auction as my newly acquired M151A2. Although it is an A5, it has 4-wheel steering. It runs and drives fantastic.

Yup, Kids look like they are having a blast, you, not so much. LOL. I wanted a mule really bad until the price got so high I said the hell with it, I can buy a side by side with parts availability and comfortable seats and driving position. At my age and condition I really like original but I really need practical!!

Mules will go around 25 MPH, or at least that is what mine will do. Others claim theirs go 30 - 35. It has a governor to keep it from going faster for safety. It has a 2-speed transfer case and 3 forward gears. It is full-time 4 wheel drive and mine is 4-wheel steer. It is rated to carry 1/2 ton. They are really fun to drive. The steering wheel will fold down so you can drive it in the prone position in reverse if under fire or drive it standing up.
