in case you go the DIY route:
Horst,
Thanks a lot for that information. I think that I have no choice but to go the DIY route. I don't plan on using any sealant. My A2 already had the intake and exhaust portion of the fording kit installed - I just wanted to complete the installation. I have no intention of actually using the fording kit.

Did you see the post from George about Army Jeep Parts having that bracket?
Here is a link to the bracket.

I got lucky. I had just started on the task of making my own fording cable bracket when I saw an ad on Ebay for 5 M151 engines for $500.00. I noticed that two of them had the fording cable bracket. I found out who owned the engines and contacted him. He is sending me one of the brackets I need, so I don't have to make my own. He told me that he also has a large amount of other MV parts and especially M151 parts for sale.

You passed on TWO engines for 500.00?!! They used to be a dime a dozen but 151 engines are getting kind of hard to come by at any kind of reasonable price. Even then they have usually been sitting outside with half the parts missing and open to the weather.

This was five M151 engines for $500.00. They have been sitting outside in the weather. Some have transmissions, etc and some have parts missing. He said some turn and some don't. I'm just glad I'll be getting the cable clamp!

Probably this one. I agree that the bracket is probably the best part of that pile besides the starters and generators. Transmissions for parts since they are sure to be full of water. The engines themselves are part donors.

The guy's name is Harold Stancil in Ocala, Florida. He told me on the phone that he has a lot of other parts for M151's including transmissions, etc. beyond what is in the photos, some of which I believe haven't been in the weather. I'm going to be in that area sometime in late April and I plan on visiting him to see what he has. He seemed like a nice guy on the telephone.

Sounds like a good place to check out. Keep in mind that transmissions tend to fill up with water even inside from condensation. Same with engines, they cool off at night and then as tings warm up the cool damp air that came in through the vents condenses on he inside of the case as it warms up. Over and over. I had a transmission for a jeep that was full almost to the top and it had been in a dry shed for years. I knew there was a problem when I saw gear oil coming out of the shifter hole.

I received the fording cable bracket today from Harold Stancil. Perfect condition - just needs a little paint.
