My Buddy Gary's M151A2-LC Rock Crawler INSANE PICTURES!

Unread post by M151-LC » February 14th, 2008, 9:54 pm

Nobody on the G503 has paid much attention to this post, and I was surprised their have been no replies their at all.

My Buddy Gary down in Mexico sent me these pictures.

This is very close to what I have been trying to explain of what Nate and I are building...LOL

This is a Rock Crawler, water Fording and super Mudding Jeep, mine will be more for trailing and Desert Racing but the concept is pretty close to what Nate and I are building. Here you can see the longer coil spring addition and lack of leaf springs my M151-LC has installed. For ultimate Rock crawling adventures the Leafs would get in the way.

The Rock crawler is not set up and designed for speed like our Desert Racer project where the leaf springs are needed for stabilityduring high rates of speed.

This may just kill some guys on this web page to see, but I had to share them anyway. Thank God for the creation of the mods Thread.

This is one bad mother rig I love watching her in action on YOU TUBE.

Notice the front uni-frame has been removed and a newer wider front frame section installed, this was to allow the room for the Chevy 350 to be installed, note the original front fenders are slightly moved and modified but intact! If you look close the original Uni-frame was reused in the new front frame buildup. Also with the front frame widening a newer Jeep Warngler sttering box was mounted on the inside of the frame VS the outside mounting of the stock steering box.

M151A2 series Jeep with a V8 is truly insane.

I love this last picture OOPS...LOL this water is just a wee to deep and the angle well maybe just a little steep for even this beast!

UM did some one forget to install a water fording kit???...LOL

Let's hear what you have to say about this creation, LIKES- DISLIKES ect???

I spoke to Gary about that and he told me he was having a hard time finding a Fording kit that is designed to fit a Chevy 350 engine, I guess they do infact make the items he will need but he will have to special order seals and electrical componets to do the job, but where it is special order it's very expensive.

So even with all the lacks the stock M151 may have next to this rig The Hurcules engine and other electrical parts still has it where it counts...LOL

Pretty neat how that A2-LC is up on the tree though, you can see this rig and some great stock films in action on YOU TUBEunder M151A2 and MUTT.

Setting up a small block for fording is no problem at all. You use a cable throttle and build a sheet metal box that houses the carb and bolts under the carb with the appropiate gaskets. Carb is now sealed. Silicone and dielectric grease take car of the ignition. O-ring on the dipstick and clutch fan to keep fan out of radiator. Done deal. I have built chevy trucks that have gone under to the roof and drove out. Not much inside the cab worked well after that but they kept running!

The hardest part is fabbing the box. I had a friend who was a wizard at bending sheet. He would build the box and a lid and I would weld the four sides of the box together. The lid screwed down with four tabs on the outside of the box and had a foam seal inside, The tubing would be attached to the lid and run to a Donaldson air filter. I did build one that enclosed the filter and carb together but it was huge and limited access to the engine and needed a large hood scoop to clear. By the way, This unit also works great for turbocharging a carbed engine because you have to pressurize the whole carb.

That was the issue, There were no pictures. The guy kept talking it up and showing pictures of a M151 body sitting on rears out of a Cherokee and saying it was an LC. Never saw an engine in it or anything else. This guy would get all kinds of bent out of shape if you said something bad about his design and then he would delete all of his posts and go sulk. Fact of the matter is that it was never built.

I just reread your post and realized you were talking about a different jeep. Yes it was a M151 body but it was not an LC. It was a 151 body on a tube frame with solid axles. There is a member here now that has built one much better. Do a search for rock crawler, I can't remember his name.

Here you go.

Oh that's a bummer. Yeah i saw that other straight axle mutt, its cool and definitely more rugged looking than a stock mutt, but the point in choosing a mutt is the independent suspension, am i right?!... Otherwise get an m38 like every other straightaxler, the parts are much more common

The original LC had straight axles.

A friend of mine around the corner from me took an A2 removed the suspension and secured it to the chassis of a Suzuki Samurai. He used the power train from the A2 with modified driveshafts, added new brakelines etc.
You will notice that it is slightly higher of the ground but that's all .
It rides beautifully and is great on and off the road.
Normally I would cringe at the idea of bastardizing an A2 but in this instance it was a good fit.
Maybe not a real LC but a good local copy.

Hay Garrett,
I saw you had posted and inquiry on this link a few weeks ago. As much as Rick will cringe, it's not that "there were no pictures", it's just that most of them had been taken down by Hummerkiller. Operative word here is "MOST". The Hummerkiller doesn't come around the MV and 4X4 sites much anymore. Bleddyn aka Hummerkiller is still alive and well, so are some of his creations, as are some of his old pictures. Enjoy...
