I'm AC7BA. Travels and apartment living have limited my air time but I really love HF.

DG9MBU. I used to do AMSAT Oscars, but that was obviously 20 years ago. Then some home build 10GHz stuff. Since then not active at all as the equipment is in storage. An old Collins KWM1 and a KWM2 wait to get activated. Some old 2m and 70cm Icom equipment. Homebuild 23cm and the mentioned 10GHz. The FM broadband version including a home grown dish worked fine, the SSB 10 GHz I never finished, all the components worked but never fully assembled them.

Re: How many Hams?
I ate so much ham when I was living as a single dude in San Diego that today I can't stand to have even a single slice of it in my house. I ate ham sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a decade. Hell I loved ham so much I once rubbed it in my hair. Incredible how times change.

Re: How many Hams?
I have been thinking of getting my license for years, but just never seem to get it done. My brother (a fellow MUTT owner) has been one for years, (KB7LMT).
One of these days....
I even have a Kenwood TS440 with an antenna tuner sitting here waiting for me to get off my butt.

Re: How many Hams?
When I got about halfway into my Comm-model Gama Goat restoration, I decided I better get a license and use some of the radios I bought. I have had my Tech license for about 4 years now.
Funny thing about the ham radio thing---the more I learn, the less I know.
Just today I found a 75 foot tower with some type of HUGE antenna on it. Free. BUT, it has to torn down and gone within a week ( the house sold). If you are near Caldwell, Idaho, and want a free monster tower with antenna, and all the guy-wires, etc,............it has to be gone by about the 8th. And you have to remove it.

Re: How many Hams?
Well, I've had my M151 for little over a year, and still have lots of under side work to do.....plus some external body work. I' got my license in 1957 and have had it since.....operate mainly on 2m these days. Over the years have had literaly tons of military surplus radio/radar/etc equipment. Wish I had had a place to keep it as I moved across the country, I'd be rich today!!!!

Re: How many Hams?
I got my license by taking the practice tests at this site every day. KC0NZN
http://www.qrz.com/testing.html
I would take the test first thing when I came in to work, again during lunch and once more at night. The thing to remember is the test you take on line here is exactly the same as the real test. The questions can not change, just the order they come in. The answers are the same way. Pretty soon, it all started making sense. I ended up going elsewhere on line to look things up which made more things make sense. Test scores began to improve, dramatically. If you do not like to read the book cover to cover (mine was in the crapper as reading material), this is a great way to learn what you need to know.
These sites are also out there, with the same purpose:
http://aa9pw.com/radio/
http://www.hamuniverse.com/code.html
http://www.w8mhb.com/exam/
Each one does it a little different, so one of these might better fit your learning profile.
