Guys
If I'm not mistaken isn't the name in the title of my thread the same guy who owns weebee webbing? I just got an email from someone claiming to be him trying to get me to send him money (no, I haven't ordered anything from him lately). Here's a copy of what "he" sent me. Is this an email scam or what? Never had one that used the name of someone I recognized before. Unless Dave really is in trouble but why would he reach out to me, someone he doesn't really even know?

I'm writing this with tears in my eyes,my family and I came down here to Wales,United Kingdom for a short vacation unfortunately we were mugged at the park of the hotel where we stayed, all cash, credit card and cell were stolen off us but luckily for us we still have our passports with us.
We've been to the embassy and the Police here are not helping issues at all and our flight leaves in a couple of hours but we're having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let us leave until we settle the bills,I'm freaked out at the moment.

I need you to help me out.

David

DELETE! DELETE! DELETE!!!!! Do not forward, it is a scam. Same as the Nigerian prince. If you have ever talked to Dave you would know he is not from Wales. You might want to send him a pm and mention it to him.

Rick
Yeah I already deleted it. Can't remember right off hand if I've ever talked with Dave or not. I've never had a scam use a person's name that I knew before. Although my geography is a bit rusty, I'm (almost  ) certain that Ohio is nowhere near Wales.

I received the same email from an account which I have never used to email David. I deleted it without reading it since it looked like spam....

I received the same email as well. It's being discussed on g503 as well.
According to Dave, his email account had been hacked.

I rec'd an email from The Ohio Motorpool at 07:40 hrs with the bogus funds request pasted to it explaining it was being sent out to many in the hobby. I'm sure we'll all get the details wen the dust settles.

I also got it. I think every address in Davids email account got it. Pretty smart. The first email was not about asking any money so I was thinking David really moght need some help, as I do not know him personally.

I was curious and replied to the email :

Hallo David,

sorry to hear you having troubles abroad. Here´s a hint: Have some of your
friends to send you money over Western Union. In a few minutes after they send
it, the money will be at your place. Here you can find WU offices:
http://www.westernunion.com/info/selectCountry.asp
You need nothing to pick up the money but a special PIN code which will be
phoned or emailed to you by the sender.
Withdraw the money and then you can settle your bills. Sorry I cannot help you
with the money right now.

Hope it helps

JOe

And here is what I got back:

Thanks for the mail, i need you to help me with $780, i will appreciate what ever you can assist me with so that i can sort the hotel bills and get a cab to the Airport,,,you can have it wired to my name via Western Union I'll have to show my passport as ID to pick it up here, you have my word and i can make it up to you, I promise to pay you back as soon as I get back home. Here's my info below

Name. David Pizzoferrato
Location: 2 Great Ormes Road,West Shore, Llandudno LL30 2AR, Wales,
United Kingdom

As soon as it has been done, kindly get back to me with the MTCN confirmation number.
I owe you a Lot

and one more urge:
Any luck yet please i don't have much time here help me out of this horrible mess

After this I was sure it is scam. These fu*kers are getting more skilled. Be careful, and always double check.

When you responded you most likely gave him all of the personal info on your computer! They know you will catch the scam, they also know you will most likely not catch the phish and malware until it is too late. I would suggest scanning your computer right away with a known good anti virus, malware program.

Hi Rick, I have done it in a past and nothing happened. They only know my emaill address is active nothing else. Besides, this computer I use now is a public one, not mine.

Yes, My email has been hacked. I'm wondering if AOL has been hacked. I'm freezing my a$$ off in Ohio, not stranded in Wales.

If you feel the need to help me out, you can send money directly to me :)

There needs to be a united world effort to round up about 100 of these ba$tards and have televised public executions.

Never Never respond to these things!! I don't know how my email addresses got in their bots but I get offers almost weekly for the good old "need to move millions and want to give you 10-25% if you help" or the "I'm sick and dying and need your help to get my father’s money out of the country" (to which I just want to write back and say I hope you have a painful death!) or the one that really pisses me off is the one claiming to be a US Soldier that found millions and lost his buddies in an ambush and needs to get the $$ out to take care of their families. I have a VooDoo doll for those guys :P

The reason they keep coming is because there are so many willing to respond, either by falling for the scam or just responding so they can wipe your machine. Best policy is DETETE, DELETE, and DELETE.. and never open any attachments :!: :!:

If any of you guys have ever wanted to respond to one of these solicitations and are in doubt about it's veracity, I am willing to act as an agent on your behalf. Just send me your bank acct. numbers, passwords, PINs, etc, and I will take care of all the rest. Just another service I'm willing to offer my friends here at G838 :!: :)
