Unread post by Rainman » May 9th, 2012, 12:25 am

Armed Forces Day 2012
I'm headed out on Friday May 18th headed toward Findlay, Ohio. Should be a pretty good turnout from the G838. I'll do my best to get a few pictures of our members.

The 25 Anniversary Armed Forces Day at Findlay was a great show to kick off the Ohio Schedule. When I arrived on Friday afternoon I was vehicle #175, with lots more vehicles to arrive by Saturday afternoon. 67Mutt and I hung out most of the event, Bob Croce, Shawshank, and Tony Banks also made the trip, though I never ran into Tony. I also saw Dave Pizzoferrato from Webee and OhioMGman walking around thew show. Vehicles were parked everywhere so finding a place to park my A2 and trailer was not so easy. Over a dozen M151's on display but scattered over the fairgrounds. My 3 1/2 hr drive was uneventful for the first 3 hrs, then started to get a little rough with carb hiccups and exhaust backfires. I limped it in unable to get much speed or power from the engine. When it was struggling the choke seemed to help for a little while, but before long the hiccups would suck the choke closed, forcing the choke knob into the palm of my hand, when completely closed it would whistle a bit but kept running at about 35 MPH. I left a little early to try to get on the road on Saturday just in case I totally broke down on the way home. Bottom line was vapor lock from the heat, since I struggled at slower speeds for a few hours till the sun went down and from then on I was 55 MPH the rest of the way home. I only took pictures of the M151's and trailers, so here ya go....

Great post Rainman, Ohio really seems to have a lot of MV's and good turnout! Going to have to make it out there one of these days. Lots of good looking 151's there............

How much was the trailer selling for in the 3rd photo?

Hey Clell,
I'm thinking the one in the camo paint was $750. There was one M416 that 67mutt and I looked at more than once in solid 383 at $650. Both had rusted floors and minor metal work to restore. Seems the camo one had a bent upper bar on the passengers side. I actually took 3 or 4 shots of each vehicle, so if anyone wants to see radios inside or rear of the vehicle, let me know and I'll post the pic set of that rig. Right click like you were saving it and let me know the picture number.
Not really a better shot in the set...

Hi johnfal,
I went back and added the first image of 1299, to the 1300 and 1301 images of the same vehicle. Those are the only 3 photos I have of that A1 with the split rear windows. It sure was a "no frills" type of rig, no weapons, no radios, no heater but a grille cover, and the gas can was on correctly. Could have been the most recent coat of active duty paint from the looks of it. I have no idea who owns it, but it has Ohio Historical Plates.
