Re: Rusty Traveler
It's March 17, 29 degrees outside, there's snow on the ground and that equals global WARMING? But seriously, congrats on getting it home. Let the games begin!

Thanks, It's home.
Just for the record. The jeep wheels were locked up and it would not roll or slide off the trailer. That is why it went together.

Re: Rusty Traveler
That's a good reason! Going to make it fun to get off the trailer! Tie 151 to tree and hook trailer to truck and drive away. problem solved and it may even break a wheel or two loose.

Re: Rusty Traveler
IMHO this is not the time for a brute force dismount. You simply don't know enough about this truck to do that. I see a lot of evidence of rust. Is your sub-frame up to than kind of pull?
SECURE it so it doesn't roll and with the front diff disengaged, jack up the front and see if those wheels turn. Then, if you find only the rears are locked up, skinny under there and disconnect the drive shaft and check those wheels again or go after that suspect parking brake.
If it has one wheel bearing hanging you up, OK. Go ahead and tug it off.
Snow, or no snow, you're going to be spending a lot of time and effort on this truck and now's the proper time to start being a mechanic.
My two cents.

Thanks TJ
Re: Rusty Traveler
Another possibility is tranny is rusted up from oil leaking out and water intrusion, rain, condensation, etc... that's what I found had locked up mine when I went to pick it up.

Re: Rusty Traveler
Bruce, time to get under the jeep and disconnect the driveshafts.
If the transmission is the culprit you will know quickly.
Surveyor’s assessment makes sense.

Re: Rusty Traveler
But just to double-tap...
SAFETY FIRST.
If you are going to disconnect the drive shaft (or shafts) make sure your little truck is secure so that it won't roll unexpectedly while you are under there disconnecting whatever it is that is keeping it from rolling!
Best of luck.

TJ

Re: Rusty Traveler
The fact that the tires stayed even going up on the trailer with one in the air I am guessing the trailer axles are attached solid to the trailer with no suspension?

Re: Rusty Traveler
It has been so cold i have not looked at it. I fell on black ice last week and have a bad time moving around.
This is before it turned all black and blue. Right hip is the same,
Now wife wants me to were ice crampons and snow shoes. I need to move out a M416 i sold, and then I will demount the jeep from the trailer. The jeep will go inside and the trailer will be derusted, painted and put up for sale.
I do appreciate the comments, I will play it very safe. I am in no rush.
Thanks

This thread is really interesting to read. Slow down and take care of yourself though. Nice pics btw.
Re: Rusty Traveler
The most obvious little gem on that truck is that siren. An item like that should already be taken off and sitting on the work bench be cause it's going to be in the way while you're leaning over that fender and because items like that tend to attract attention of the wrong sort, grow legs, and walk off in the dead of night.
