Gun mounts for jeep?
A friend wants to use his jeep for an airsoft event, what kind of guns can be mounted on these jeeps?
Re: Gun mounts for jeep?
That is kind of of a wide open question. Anything "CAN" be mounted by way of improvisation but the standard gun was the M60 mounted on an M4 mount.

Disagree Rick. Don't believe you could mount a 25 pounder on a Jeep

I have all types of welders, torches and bid a**ed hammers, I could make it fit. It may only fire once but it did fit.kmam wrote:Disagree Rick. Don't believe you could mount a 25 pounder on a Jeep

Touche... Be nice if a Jeep and a 25pdr could be donated - love to watch it fire that one shot...

Max,
Let us also mention that the pedestal by itself isn't the be-all and end-all of the mount. There are all sorts of things that are needed after the pedestal, in order to mount a gun. The pedestal is the easy part.
Most Airsofts are just a little bit off when it comes to putting them in original mounts. The tolerances are extremely fine in real gun mounts and you won't want to carve them up, because they are expensive and their only value lies in having proper tolerances.
Airsoft, on the other hand, doesn't have a lot of material in them and shaving off a couple of thousandths is really quite a lot when it comes to light-weight materials such as what it being used in those. Between those two things, that's really where the problem lies.
So, count on making your own mounts, or perhaps hunting down a replica mount (I know replica 30-50 yokes are being cast) even if you are using an original pedestal.
Cheers,
TJ

Like I said in the beginning this is kind of a wide open question since we do not know if you are looking for authenticity or just a Bubba job to have fun with. A real pedestal alone will set you back around 600.00. Then you have the cradle which can run another 350-500 depending on condition.MaxtheNinja wrote:A friend wants to use his jeep for an airsoft event, what kind of guns can be mounted on these jeeps?

Re: Gun mounts for jeep?
I went back and re-read his question. He said "jeep" so I don't know if he meant M151s as well, or even what era he's talking about. I had one vet approach me at the car show who said they even had a Browning 1919 mounted on their M151A1. Whaaaaaat?!! Things get so weird in this hobby. I guess that's why I like it.
Re: Gun mounts for jeep?
I'm fairly certain Doyle's book has a couple pictures showing a mounted 1919 on early straight m151's. I don't think it would be a stretch for some early a1's to have had the same.
Some examples of what was mounted are
Browning 1919
Browning M2
M60
m249
M240G
mk19 grenade launcher
Try "airsoft" in the search page here. You should find some examples of using the real mounts to homemade mounts on the ROPS bar.

Re: Gun mounts for jeep?
Thanks for the advice, he decided to go with a M60 that he's going to get. And he'll carry an m4 for his personal gun (I know it's not historically accurate, and told him so)... But we're going to a more modern milsim, and it's just to be cool so...

Check out the gun truck California Dreamin' with its two Brownings! Two Brownings are actually cheaper than a non-operational M60 (crazy world)!!
