a florida buddy had two for sale last summer, original engines, $20,000 each. I just checked with him and both were sold. I didn't ask where they came from. he also has one from that legal Marine sale that is complete, turret, radios, and all the other original stuff. It was restored to new condition and is a superb machine. I think he wants $55-60,000. PM me if you want to contact him.

I'm sorry Ralph, I think what Rick is trying to say... IF you neighbor had (2) two, that would have looked like that, what years might they have been? :D All these guys talking in facts, and not hypotheticals. What's this world coming too? Geez...

Rick: The Hummers are both 1985 and have paperwork. I had to see that before letting him park them on my place. He towed the muddy one with a tow-bar and the lead Hummer got stuck. That's the reason for all the mud on the left one.

Then they were probably part of that original sale.

If I want something big and ugly that gets poor fuel mileage then I will buy a wrecker for under ten grand. At least that is useful and can make you money! Plus they get around 8 - 10 MPG which is better than most hummers. You can also use it to tow the hummers with roasted engines from trying to pull all that useless weight around.

I will have to agree. He HMMWV may have a little extra go anywhere juice but it just feels like you're driving a big hunk of junk and nothing else on 4 wheels is as fun to drive as a MUTT.

I have ridden in military Hummers that had no armor added to them, and they didn't ride near as bad a a Jeep CJ. All due respects to those that have more experience with them than me, but I don't think they were underpowered at all with the 6.2's until after all that unplanned weight was added to them. Quite possibly the "unplanned" armor weight was a foolish military blunder in the beginning, but the vehicles 6.2 engines didn't suffer till after their thin skins had been boosted. JMHO

They had overheating problems even before the armor. They were alright on the road but once you got them off road and pulling hard in sand or mud then they ran very hot.

I bought one of the HUMVEES from the auction here in atlanta, around 1998. They sold for ~$7500 ea. Mine was a 1985 M998. It was was large, loud and slow. I sold it and never looked back.

The man responsible for the sale of all the USMC humvees in atlanta is a member here. He is a great guy! He organized the deal directly with USMC which according to him is a private entity and can sell their stuff to whomever they desire. Once the humvees ran out he started getting mutts from BARSTOW,stacked like cordwood, for export sales only. He still has several Mutts and a NOS humvee. He uses an A2 for a pit vehicle at the racetrack (He races 60's vintage German sports cars). I saw one of his mutts with the crate of parts still in the back, new batteries stacked on the front bumper. A perfect NOS M151A2 just as it was when it drove off the production line!

This could be the start of a new thread: photo caption contest. "some assembly required." -Or "you can build it, we can help."

As an aside, that's a "great"( ) return on the US tax dollar isn't it? Curious to know if this is the most visited/participated in thread in 838 history as it is now 6 pages long.
Matt
