I worked with muttguru and found out that the serial number is also stamped into the spare tire mount, that is how I found out mine is a 1976 model.

Thanks for providing another option as far as a place to look for this vehicle ID. Is there a specific area I should be looking at for any Numbers?

Lightly sand the area just below the mounting stud for the pare tire. The number is stamped so be careful not to sand to hard

I just corresponded with Ken about this and neither one of us is really convinced about these numbers being identification numbers since they do not match any of the formats that were used. Which means there is nothing to go by to use them as an identifier. Also, not all vehicles have those numbers. It appears that only a select group had the numbers.
If the numbers are there and it has the contract number and the C151 number then it is a valid number but otherwise........................ who knows.

Does anyone have a photo of the number placement and format that they would be willing to share? You know, the old photo worth a thousand words thing.
Still crazy after all these years.

I was just thinking about that the other night, I need to put together a sticky with pictures of all of the number placements so we do not have to go through this tree or four times a week. If anyone has clear pictures of the various tags please submit them here and I will put together a sticky post so they are all in one place and at the top all the time.

Maybe these will help.
Actually, I was meaning the other places people claim the number appears, like on the spare tire bracket, etc.

Kia Ora, and a big thank you to all those who have posted on my original question
I have checked the spare tire mount and cannot find any numbers so that closes off that option. With this vehicle coming out of South East Asia - Cambodia/Viet Nam to be precise - it would seem they have gone to great lengths to remove any form of potential ID.
I notice even the plate on the starter motor has been defaced ! So I am back to using any year build variances in the manufacture of these vehicles as a means to try and establish the year of construction and or the manufacturer.
On another note have established the distributor/coil is in fact powered by 24 volts the 12 volt feed looks like it was set up as a power source for accessories/radio etc
Cannot believe the simplicity of these vehicles so still learning a lot about them
Regards
Euan

Euan, I wish we could have answered you question on the dates but I do hope the seat belt info was of help. If you do not mind I would like to modify this thread and make it a sticky due to it having pictures of all of the places ID tags are located with the exception of the spare tire mount.

Thanks, I will be changing the title to reflect the ID tag info and I am still looking for any pictures of spare tire mount numbers. I will make this a sticky so that it will always ge at the top for info, instead of having to constantly explain where these things are from that point on all you will have to do is copy the url and paste it as a link in the thread that is asking.

Re: Different locations for body id tags
Ok, The body tag thread is up and running and it is set as a sticky so it will always be at the top. This way anyone can link to it and paste it in a thread instead of explaining every time about the body tags. I will be watching this one closely and I will not be leaving unrelated or rambling posts on here. This is an info thread only. If you want to debate the spare tire number thing then do it in another thread. I will leave a picture of those numbers posted on here but not a long ongoing debate about them.
