Not so favorite picture
It's been a sucking week at Ham Acres, my 30 yr old carport wouldn't handle 12+ inches of snow and sleet, my new F150 is under there also.

Looks like the mutt is ok, which is probably the main interest of concern!! LOL
Also makes me wonder if you ever seen that much snow at 1 shot?

It's never seen half that much, there has been numerous structures collapse in our area, it even sunk boat docks in the river. South Arkansas took a big hit from the storm, many cars still in ditches, no gas and the grocery store shelves are bare, I feel like I'm in Minnesota.

It is comforting to know that if anyone invades the U.S., they're going to have to bring their own sustenance because, after two days......
Sorry to see you've got troubles.

P.S. - Looks like you could use a forklift right about now!

Is that forklift running?? I'm worried about lifting on it, all the weight is laying on my vehicles, think it will be best to slowly dismantle it, plus I may be able to salvage some sheet metal. Insurance man gonna be hating it, is this where I can use the term "Build Back Better"?
T.J.- Thanks for the sympathy, I wouldn't wish this on anyone, may have to get the jeep out just to have a ride.

Best to just let it melt before moving anything! That snow is a lot of weight and moving any little thing could cause more of it to crash down. What is the forecast for the next week or so?

Sorry to see this . If you have an outside garden hose and it is above freezing you can always defrost the snow with water.

Careful with the water idea, The snow will absorb and hold a lot of that water before any melting happens! The direction of the ridges in the metal are not going to let the snow slide off so the water will build up in the snow like a sponge. If you have a long piece of decent size rope you can run that over the roof and tie off one end and pull the other along the roof to drag just the snow without putting any pull against the roof. Take little bites starting down low and working your way up so you are not trying to move the whole pile at once.

Re: Not so favorite picture
Thanks guys, it made it to 38 degrees today, should be in the 50's and 60's next week, hopefully I can start tearing down Sunday, insurance adjuster will be here Monday. Wife's car will need a new roof and more, probably will be totaled, my truck survived with a good dent in the roof, not sure about my boat, it smashed up pretty good. I built this carport in 1989, the trusses were store bought, looks like a couple of welds gave up where it bolts together at the top, going back fully enclosed, I was tired of blowing leaves out from under it anyway.

I would not touch anything until after the insurance adjuster sees it!!! The insurance company can say you caused more damage than what the storm did and not pay. Just hold on till he sees it and documents it all.

I'm with Rick. And don't add water!
That snow will suck it up and the weight will double.
Then your insurance man will REALLY tell you, "Uh....NO".

Re: Not so favorite picture
They make snow rakes to pull the snow off the roof. But the rope way probably will work better

Being from the south, I'm not up on the blizzard tricks, but the rope trick sounds like the way to go, I will know next time one of these once in a lifetime storm comes through.

Hey Buddy. Sorry to see your situation. When I first got into dealing with building additions at Cameron, I had my first exposure to snow load on roofs. Being in NY state where there can be significant amounts, this obviously has an impact on roof support beam sizes, weight per square foot (especially on buildings 80' x 140' with hoists hanging from the ceiling), etc. Hopefully your insurance takes care of the situation.
