Another USMC Trailer
I picked up another USMC trailer over the winter. It is now being taken apart and worked over. This one was overhauled at
"MCLB Barstow" in 1982. what does MCLB stand for?
It also has some other details under the camo. A blue square with a white "L" in the middle. It also has an additional marking any idea what that means.
The data plate is not stamped as to Manufacturer. From the contract number can anyone tell me who made it and or what year? Other photo Also the lunette eye is set up for the M422 Thanks

Marine Corp Logistics Base, Barstow. That would be my guess. It is definitely a B1 Marine trailer and looks like it had typical Marine use although the box is surprisingly straight and square. Hey Horst, there's where your trailer went!

Re: Another USMC Trailer
The lunette could have been set up for a mite but more likely it was s=changed by a civilian owner to more closely match a pickup truck. Note the 12 volt trailer wires.

Re: Another USMC Trailer
I was thinking that in case of re-building my trailer I would add those tie-downs and make it a USMC trailer. But not very likely that I will have time.
Are those tie downs welded to the frame or bolted?
How many trailer have you been restoring so far, Redlight?
Seems like you have a good understanding were to find those M416s

Re: Another USMC Trailer
Sorry to take so long to answer your questions.
1) the tie-downs are welded to the frame on both sides of the round section.
2) this is the 25th trailer I have worked on. This is only the second USMC M416B1 that I have had.
3)About 50% have been bought at auctions They come from GSA, Govdeals.com and other sites. The rest come from friends, Craigslist and word of
mouth.
While I have refreshed a bunch and sold them locally, I have sold one to a person that came up from South Carolina. I have also delivered some to NY, NH, VT and PA. They show up from time to time. I did have 4 in the driveway at one time but the wife looked at me sideways.
I still have a question out there " Were all of the m416b1 made by the same firm? " Who was the firm or who made this one. That information is not stamped on the Date Plate. The Data plate looks original but most likely is from when it was overhauled at Barlow. I also love the hand stamping on the overhaul plate. I no longer worry on how neat I am when I put a new plate on the ones I worked on.

Re: Another USMC Trailer
That is not a M416B1. It's a regular M416 trailer modified by the USMC by adding the tie downs. The M416B1's have dual gas can brackets and the location of the tie downs in front are located forward of the gas can brackets. The parking break is also located near the corner of the tub so it uses a longer j-hook.
