My brandy new fatigues looked like that, for a couple days. Then 100 degree heat and 100% humidity and constant rain and mud kinda changed the way they looked, And felt. They were a lot more comfortable after natural softening. And later shortening.  We seldom wore more than a T shirt if any shirt at all. On patrol we wore the whole shebang since it was camo, but it was HOT!!! You guys that were in the sandbox wearing full armor gear day and night have my utmost respect!!!! I saw guys here on the base by me in the heat of summer riding around in their cars with the windows up and the HEAT blasting!!!!! Getting acclimated for their time over there. Times have certainly changed!!!

To my non-expert eye, that looks like an A2, based on the turn signals?

thanks for the picture!

For whatever reason I did not know that the USMC had a jerry can on the trailer, at least in this case. I always thought these were civilian owner adaptations...

Good Morning Horst:

When I was in the Air Force a long, long time ago, our unit had a number of the MRC-108 versions of the M-151. That jeep with its extensive radio pallet for the ground FAC's often towed an M-416 trailer with a generator to augment the jeeps engine generator. Those trailers had several jerry cans mounted in and on them in jerry can holders to provide a fuel source for the aux generators.

Regards,

Walter

Horst, that is an M416-B1 trailer; a USMC exclusive. In addition to a Jerry can holder on each front quarter, there are lifting loops at each corner. You can see one of the loops just forward of the Jerry can.

Looks like a recruiting type photo. There are a few more from this series that I have seen.

I see SO MANY things wrong in that picture! First and foremost is an A2 with no ROPS. (see second paragraph) But that aside this is in Germany so not a war zone, look at the hair on the white guys, over the ears! No way that would pass muster. Those uniforms are far too clean and sharp to have driven in an open vehicle on a damp wet day out into the country, Horst could probably tells us how far they are from a base that would have existed in 1974 there. Did they allow females out in the field in 1974? I don't think so. And if they did I am sure the rules are the same as now, hair pulled back out of the face. Women in the field is common now but back then it was not and for good reason, look at the driver. Is he paying attention to the job at hand? Nope. You know where his mind is at.

I also notice no visible rank on any of the soldiers. All I can see are the lapel clips and they may or may not be rank emblems. I am not familiar with the subdued themes. The guy leaning on the hood has the demeaner of the seasoned Sergeant and the one standing next to him the new 1st loouie straight out of West Point! Older Vets will get what I mean. But I am thinking if it is not a pure recruiting poster then it is a Sergeant with a group of privates.

Hello Folks,

here's a different view of the above picture. It was part of a publicity recruitment leaflet that was given to my brother when we were both strolling around at the USAF open days at Mildenhall, Suffolk in the early 80's. Somwhere in the files I still have the leaflet so when I find it, I'll post it here.
Even though it was a USAF event, there was actually an Army

recruitment desk but my brother was told that anyone thinking of signing up for Army service had to be a US citizen

02EK7470 is the hood number on that M151. the woman has E3 rank visible, the two men by the hood are both E4s, but the guy standing in and looking at the women does not have any rank pins visible. those small collar pins are what replaced the sleeve rank we used to sew on.

I was looking at the collar pins but on my monitor I could not make them out. I knew they used the rank pins but I just can't see them. You guys have better equipment than I do.
