MT-1029 and MT-1898 Connection Sockets
Can the CX-4721 cable connections on the MT-1029 and MT-1898 be re-oriented? I have mounted the MT-1898 next to the MT-1029. I have an 18-inch CX-4721 cable that would easily reach the sockets on both mounts if the sockets can be re-oriented. It looks like that may be possible if the locking ring on the socket is loosened, but I'm afraid to try that without more information. I can't find anything in the TMs to answer the question, but to me the possibility of being able to do so would make a lot of sense.

I have not tried reorientating the socket but would be concerned that doing so may put strain on the internal wiring. While it is a little difficult, you can undo the plug and change its orientation to achieve the effect you desire.

I tried that first. I removed both locking rings from the plug end. I can slightly rock the connection side of the plug, but can't pull it out or rotate the sleeve with the orientation groove in it. What am I missing?

Re: MT-1029 and MT-1898 Connection Sockets
It is some time since I did that but, as I recall it was a case of carefully twisting the cable to force the plug to rotate against the friction of the rubber waterproofing the cable goes through. Of course it was first necessary to ensure the fittings were no longer stopping that.
This is from memory and it may be worth getting hold of an old cable to experiment before working on the ones you are using.

Re: MT-1029 and MT-1898 Connection Sockets
The plugs on my cable are 90 deg. I tried twisting the cable, but the cable won't turn at all. The two locking rings are completely unscrewed and removed, as well as the strain-relief nut on the cable. I think it is time for me to take drastic measures and try to force the socket to turn in the housing after holding the housing in a vice. If I destroy the cable, I'll try to find another that is slightly longer so that orientation of the plugs won't matter. However, first I think I'll open up the mounts and see if I can re-orient the sockets without damaging the wiring. Thanks for the help.
EDIT: I found out how to open up the connector on the plug of the cable. After removing the screwed in ring on the back side, you can press very hard on the cylindrical nut in the center of the plug side with the contacts. The back side will pop out, not damaging anything. However, it is instantly obvious that if you have 90 deg plugs, re-orientation of the plug is not possible. However, I believe if you have a cable with straight plugs orientation would be easily adjustable.
