Tractor Supply or local hardware store. 3/8" Eye bolt, That is all it is. And be sure to use a spreader bar when lifting so the lifting chains are straight up and down.
If the Eye bolt you get has an open end on it be sure to weld that up. I don't know if you can still find a closed Eye bolt anymore. Maybe McMaster-Carr.

Carr does have them and they are specifically for lifting. Measure the depth of the hole and get one of the ones with the boss on the bottom that will give maximum thread engagement without bottoming out but still bolt tight to the block. Also get zinc coated and NOT stainless.

Thank you Rick…..McMaster.

And thanks for the info on the spreader.
I will when the day comes to pull it.
I’m puttin on the rebuilt head, intake and exhaust manifolds and realized I needed to replace the rear eye as it was missin.

Now that I saw those eye on Mcmaster-Carr I am going to get a few for my engines. The originals were very weak with no support on the shaft. With the boss on the bottom of the eye they will bolt tight to the head and there is your side support. If the eye does not line up as you like it then put a flat washer under it but be sure the hole is very close to shank size and the outer diameter is at least as wide as the boss. This way it will tighten down in a different position. I don't care which way the eye is positioned.

Ran a bottoming tap down the liftin eye 3/8-16 mounting hole. Length is just over 5/8” (11/16).
Not sure if the bent one I removed from my 151 is NOS but it measures
Inside eye diameter 1”
Outside 1.6”

OAL from McMaster with these specs is 2.84”
Zink plate / steel lifting eye. #1300 capacity

Wanted to give an update
Found an engine lifting eye NOS at TNJ Murray
As I was unsuccessful in locating the proper
Replacement at some other locations.

……,,,,,………...

Received the lifting eye with the previous specs listed.
Unfortunately the OD (radius) is too large to thread it all the way down to the boss; the eye is impeded from snuggin down to the base of the boss because at the true radius of the eye was too large by just under 1/4”.
The one that was installed previously that was the same size eye diameter / radius as the new one from McMaster but the shaft length was 1-3/8” with a lock down nut. I figured with the boss not flat on the head with 1/2” thread above the nut to the base of the boss,
That’s why it was bent.

That sucks! I never thought of that and I was not able to look at mine before mentioning the shoulder bolt. Sorry about that. Since you need to use the long shank be sure to use a spreader on the lift so the chains lift straight up on the two mounts.

I used an engine horizontal lifting tool(spreader bar, thanks to rickf for the name) you can make it slant, with 1 sling basketed/can choke it too. around the front of engine & oil pan, the other one around the engine/bell housing.Used engine hoist to lift it.The slings comes in handy for a lot of stuff. These slings are what linemen use.
Aw, it would be cheaper using the eye bolt than buying the slings.

Ya gotta take the valve cover off to install a lifting eye properly.

Yea thanks for all the info everyone!
Great group here for sure.
:)

The valve cover is off because I had the head rebuilt and put in new exhaust manifold also.
