My Hometown MemD10 Parade
I was going to spare you guys the local Rainman newspaper pictures and write up, but just ran across this on youtube. 9 minutes of mid American patriotism...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwuYnhLyxkc
In 2010, Vietnam was our theme, and we were moved much closer the front than in previous years. This is the Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio parade of MemD10. An old Army buddy and I are up near the front right behind the first deuce.
These are my family, my friends, and my hometown. Oh yeah, and the home of the....
M151A2 "Hackmobile".
I never get tired of this picture

Poppy Princess huh? When I'm in them I don't get to watch them, so all I can say is she must be the royal version of the VFW Poppy Girl. You've heard of poppy girls right? VFW's sell little plastic or tissue poppy flowers as a fund raiser, and select a young girl from the community to represent the effort.
Hey dustoff, maybe I should explain a little further that the Hackmobile's history. It does currently reside in the museum at Ft. Campbell, KY. It was first assigned as a normal early A2 to a local Army recruiter here in my home town. Sgt. Dave Hack willfully had the jeep painted and modified to be used as a recruiting tool for his office. He drove it around town and to local high schools drumming up business for the Army in the early 70's. When wind of it got to headquarters, he was promptly brought up on charges for misappropriation of gov't property. All charges were dropped before the courts martial began, and the jeep was retired from active duty to be placed into the museum at it's current home at Ft Campbell. I am told (by Sgt. Hack) that it is one of only two jeeps to have ever been pulled from active duty specifically to be placed into a museum. The first belonged to General Patton. The Hackmobile was falling into disrepair a few years back and Dave Hack regained temporary custody of it to have it repaired at his own expense, and then returned it to the museum. My A2 is the only other M151 Sgt. Hack has ridden in since he left military service.

I didn't know the VFW still did that anywhere. I remember seeing the poppies when I was a kid, but they haven't done that around here in recent times....

Re: My Hometown MemD10 Parade
Yeah i know the history on it. Always thought it was pretty cool. thats why i spend so much time up at the museum cause they have so much to offer but no one takes the time to restore the vehicles and take care of them!!! When i get back ill post pics on here of the projects to go with the mutts they have.

The VFW and the Legion still give out paper poppies around here just about every holiday weekend at the 4 way stop sign here in town.
