Carburator Mod Project
The post "Budd Number" by Johnfal made me go dig out me Carb project, it has been sitting untouch for about 6 months, I just got it back today from the Welding & Machine Shop and thought I would show the progress. I cut and prepared the intake here at the house then, took it all to the Machine Shop and showed him what I needed, this is the results.

Re: Carburator Mod Project
Dan,
Will you come to Germany to test the fastest Mutt ever on the Autobahn with no speed limit? The hood can be closed when the Weber carb with the intake manifold has been bolted?
Nice project. I'm awaiting more pics soon.

Richard, I would LOVE to come back to Germany, I haven't started on the air cleaner hook up yet but, I don't think there will be any major clearance issues. next week I'll pull the intake off my motor and start the fitting process, need to route the two cables and the fuel line,
Mark, you can be assured there will be MORE photos!!

Re: Carburator Mod Project
Is that a 44? That is a lot of carb for that engine. The exhaust is going to be a buzzkill on that project. Do they even still make the Webers? I still have a set of dual 48 IDA's from one of my 2180 VW motors. I LIKE it, I may have to come down for the tuning party. I like a good challenge. Real nice work on the manifold. I just found a guy from Steel Soldiers that lives not too far from me that has some nice machine equipment and an open mind. Now what we need is to machine a piece to fit in the exhaust recess's so we can bolt on a header.

Re: Carburator Mod Project
"Is that a 44? That is a lot of carb for that engine." NO, it is a 32 DCOF that was used on 4 cyl. Fiats in the 60s+, as far as I could tell the smallest sidedraft Weber had was a 30 Dco, I picked up 2 rebuild kits and some assorted jets in case it is too rich. I got it all from a guy in Cal. says he has about 50 NOS Carbs on hand.
Now what we need is to machine a piece to fit in the exhaust recess's so we can bolt on a header. My thoughts exactly I'll look into it when this is working!
Do they have a "updated modified" category at the Shows

Re: Carburator Mod Project
The exhaust will be easy, find the diameter rod that will fit the recess, mill the one side flat and mill out the ports transitioning from square to round.

Re: Carburator Mod Project
Well, I couldn't wait so, I did a test fit today to see what was going to need tweaking the biggest thing I see is the throttle hook up. I am going to try and set this up as, just a manifold with carb and, a few line extensions, swap out.

Re: Carburator Mod Project
Here is a little update, I had to order and wait for some intake gaskets, got some extra because I know I'll need them. I needed to use studs where the intake wraps around the exhaust, the carb. adapter came down to low to get bolts in.
I also used studs in the lower holes for the carb; they will be used to hold some linkage.
Hooked up all "needed for now" lines and wires and fired her up!
It will start and, will keep running as long as I work the throttle, I need to fix a leak in the Radiator and tweak some other things so I can keep it running for a longer time. I'll post a Video of it running as soon as I get it 100%.

Re: Carburator Mod Project
Ah yes, jumper cables, alligator clips, bare wires all over the place. The ONLY way to work! Brings back good memories.

Re: Carburator Mod Project
Come on rick, you of all people know that other then a good ground, a jumper from the starter to the battery when ready to crank and, only 1 wire is all that is needed to start and run a 151 motor.

And gas which inevitably gets spilled on the floor making for some exiting times when you spark the wire on the starter. Oh I know it well.
