That had to have been one of those small rubber tracked dozers as I don't see any track marks. Even a D-5 would have made it a pancake. Still makes you steam to see such valuable equipment paid for by our taxes destroyed by our own government, but that is another story.rickf wrote:

P.S. I never saw a bulldozer race. I've seen a combine demo derby though.
P.S.S. A guy I used to work with that was in the service said that when pulling guard duty at night out in Nebraska, they would get bored and have slow races with M38A1s. Whoever got to the finish line last without killing it or taking it out of gear won.

Hey Moose-
I vote to keep this site. Frankly I am a bit surprised you even started this thread but when you said you were getting e-mails requesting it be shut down I understood. This site is awesome and I am thankful you took the initiative to start it. In a Democracy there is choice and people are voting with their membership here. At the time I write this there are 78 members. VERY Impressive if you ask me.
Regards,
Matt-

Stay or Go?
I use both sites, this one and the G503. I'm not into the policital stuff but are always looking for ideas on how to maintain my M151. Only probem I see is that I have to use both sites to gather information. If you stay I'll be here but if you go I'll still be at the G503.

I'm not into political stuff either, the 503 is a great site, but its focus was WWII (g503) jeeps. There was room to expand here, so hopefully this will become the one stop shopping place for information on M151 (g838) jeeps. At any rate welcome and I encourage use of both sites, I do visit both myself.

The G503 has been an excellent place to go. I enjoy all the different forums. Ron has been a pioneer in supplying a place for military vehicle enthusiast to gather and share information. Ron does not sell M151 parts. He primarily sells G503 parts. That's what feeds his family. That's where his primary focus is. As of today there are 7907 members. There are people with diverse interests and personalities. Running a business and running a website, of this size, at the same time is impossible. He has had to rely on friends to moderate. It's a thankless job.
Here are sample of problems, which come to mind, that Ron has had to deal with:
Surplus dealers that think the Gee exists simply for them to sell their inventory. Scammers selling MV stuff through the Gee that misrepresent their product or outright commit fraud and theft. Two well known Gee members had such a feud going they got the Maine state police involved and Ron had to deal with the police and threats of lawsuits. Filtering out spam. People using the Gee as a fund raiser which mostly 'raised' the ire of some. A guy with a 1945 ford GPW that is so fanatical about his causes he would post 100's of controversial links just to annoy others, problem is he was also buying lots of parts. He continued his obnoxiousness to the point he was banned. Pornographic posts. Flame wars. Whiners. Copyright infringements. Trolls. Jerks. "Purist" versus "Bubba." The know-it-all. Thread thieves (unnecessary tangents.)
Ron had to make some rules. He had to get several people to moderate posts. It's a touchy and subjective job. My hat is off to them. I don't like some of the decision that the moderators make at times and at other times I can't understand why they don't give certain people the boot or at least delete their post. But, it's a tough job to please everyone. I've worked as a wrestling referee and know what it's like to make unpopular decisions. You just try to follow the rules and do your best; you're not going to please everyone. If the G838 continues to grow, Moose is going to have to make some decisions that are not going to please some people. Moose wants this site to be G rated, if some yahoo starts posting pornography he'll have to deal with it. Even though it has been self-policing, if he ends up with 7907 members he'll need some playground monitors.
Ron is a great guy. His moderators are all volunteers, as far as know, and are doing their best. I think this new site will be a great place for Mutt aficionados. It must be a wake-up call for the g503; then again they don't sell Mutt parts so it's not a huge business loss; and is one less thing for them to maintain. They'll need to consider their moderation tactics on the other forums that are business generating.
I'll continue to visit both sites. It's Ron's site if he doesn't like the way I post I'll try and observe his rules, same goes for Moose it's their site. I have a sardonic sense of humor and am straight forward and don't tolerate idiots very well , (though in real life my wife calls me "a man of few words") sometimes people misinterrupt that as being offensive. I've had to apologize more than once. Hopefully I make more friends than enemies.

As iron sharpens iron ...
Spike, I agree with you 100% on this. Ron IS a great guy, and the G503 is a great forum. Everything you said is correct, at least from where I see it. I started this board to allow the M151 community to stay together and grow. It was not due to feeling negative in any way towards Ron, I recognized those same facts you laid out. We wanted things like the 503 owners had, and it really wasn't fair to expect Ron to foot the bill, both in terms of expense and time, when we didn't enhance his business any. Its a testiment to Ron that he included us in the first place. I want this site to eventually contain everything a person interested in collecting and preserving M151 jeeps could possibly need, just like Ron's has everything a WWII jeep owner could want. I want the two sites to be complementary to each other not competitive. We just were kinda outgrowing our space there, and wanted to stand on our own two feet. I appreciate everyones comments (even the unfavorable ones) as we shape this site to provide the best resource we can for the 151 community.

Jim
