Hey guy and gals,
I just arranged to have an engine shipped through Fastenal. It was very easy and reasonably priced.
The seller needed to strap the engine to a pallet and drop it off at one of his local Fastenal shops (the size was 36X36X36 @ 315lbs). Fastenal then ships it to another Fastenal shop of your choice. The engine is going from Northern Oregon to the San Francisco Bay Area (Ca.). The total cost was around $160.
They do cover damage if it occurs during transport.
At this point, I would recommend them for long distance shipping. When the engine arrives I will update this post.

Good info, I guess my 300# Guestimate was pretty darn close on the engine weight.

Rick, you were right on.
I received the engine today. It was safe and secure and was a pleasurable experience. I would use them in the further without hesitation.

That's a very good resource, would have never thought of them. Couple years ago I tried to buy an engine complete with tranny and radiator, went through our trucking companies at the time, not one would be responsible for damage unless it was crated and the cost to move just a couple states away was considerably more. I walked from the deal. Will definitely keep them in mind if the opportunity comes along again.
